Finally! VARs To Make English Football Debut In January

English football will enter a new phase in January 2018 with the use of Video Assistant Referees (VARs).

VARs will be used for the first time in English football during the FA Cup third round clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

It will be the first competitive match in England in which video replays will be employed to overturn refereeing decisions.

The ‘M23 Derby’ tie was chosen to conduct a live trial of so-called Video Assistant Referees (VARs) with the first third round tie between Liverpool and Everton (Merseyside Derby) deemed too high-profile a fixture to stage the first live VAR test in English football.
