US Open: Djokovic Survives Sandgren Scare To Secure Last 32 Spot

Former world number one Novak Djokovic has sealed a last 32 spot at the ongoing US Open tournament in New York after surviving a second set scare against big-hitting American Tennys Sandgren in the second round.

The 31-year-old defeated his opponent 6-1 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 to stay in the hunt for a third US Open crown.

The Serbian sixth seed will face Richard Gasquet of France as he hoped to avenge compatriot Laslo Djere’s second round defeat.

Djere was beaten 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 by Gasquet in their last 64 clash on Thursday evening.

Speaking after his victory, Djokovic, who’s targeting a 14th Grand Slam title said: “I thought I played very well for the first two sets, two sets and a half, and then lost it mentally.”

“I’m not happy with the way I lost concentration and composure but I managed to regroup in the fourth.” He concluded.
