Moses Simon Opens Account As Nantes Hold Leaders Saint-Etienne

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon scored his first goal of the 2020-21 Ligue 1 season as his Nantes side rallied from a two goal deficit to hold leaders Saint-Etienne at the Stade de LA Beaujoire on Sunday.

Nantes were winless heading into the encounter and were looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat at Monaco.

But they got off to the worst possible footing, conceding within two minutes of the start as Adil Aouchiche gave Saint-Etienne the lead.

Randal Kolo Muani thought he’d restored parity just before the break but his effort was ruled out by VAR for offside.

Yvann Macon extended the visitors’ lead in the 66th minute as Nantes looked dead and buried.

But Simon who was on from the start and lasted the entirety of the match led a rousing fight back and halved the deficit in the 71st minute.

The home side completed their comeback five minutes from time when Renaud Edmond stroked home to ensure a share of the spoils.

Simon signed permanently in the summer after spending last season on loan with Nantes from Levante.

He was named Nantes player of the season after scoring nine goals and bagging eight assists in 30 appearances in all competitions and would be looking to surpass that tally this season.
