Moneybags Paris Saint Germain (PSG) are the new French Ligue 1 champions after they sealed the title with the 7-1 annihilation of the immediate past champions AS Monaco at the Parc Des Princes on Sunday night.
Giovanni Lo Celso (2), Angel Di Maria (2), Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falcao (own goal) and Julian Draxler scored for the hosts with Monaco getting their consolation through in-form Rony Lopes.
The win for PSG took them 17 points clear with just five games left and that was enough to secure the league title from Leonardo Jardim’s side.
PSG have now won seven league titles.
Olympique Marseille have boosted their hopes of finishing in the top 3 and also qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) after they defeated their hosts Troyes 3-2 on Sunday with goals from Clinton N’Jie, Kostas Mitroglou and Florian Thauvin.
The win was enough to see Marseille leapfrog Olympique Lyon back into 3rd spot in the keenly contested race for next season’s UCL.
In the other French Ligue 1 game played on Sunday, Bordeaux won 3-1 at Montpellier.
