French Ligue 1: Late Goal Dents Monaco’s Title Push

A late strike from French international Nabir Fekir dented AS Monaco’s title bid in their mammoth Matchday 9 league clash with Olympique Lyon at the Stade Gerland.

Lyon had twice taken the lead through Mariano Diaz and the aforementioned Fekir but were pegged back on each occasion by the French champions courtesy goals from Rony Lopes and Adama Traore in what was an entertaining first half that ended in a 2-2 halftime result.

The second half of the absorbing encounter struggled to match the entertainment value of the previous half but it ended in dramatic fashion as Fekir netted his second goal of the game on the stroke of fulltime to give Lyon a 3-2 win.

The victory catapults Lyon six places up the French Ligue 1 table from 9th to 3rd with 16 points and they are now just three points away from AS Monaco who stay in 2nd spot also missed out on the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
