Battle For Premier League Promotion: Championship Leaders Suffer Shock Defeat

English championship leaders Cardiff City suffered only their second league defeat of the season following a surprising 1-0 defeat at struggling Birmingham City.

The only goal of the game was scored by Che Adams in the 19th minute in what was Steve Cotterill’s first game in charge of Birmingham City and the result was enough for the team to climb out of the relegation zone.

In the other league game on Friday night, Burton Albion recorded a third successive clean sheet away from home as they kept their hosts Bristol City at bay in a goalless draw affair at Ashton Gate. Bristol City missed out on the opportunity to move into second position with a win.

A win for Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City would have taken the team four points clear of Wolverhampton Wanderers in second place. The leaders are still occupying the top spot with 24 points from their first 12 league games of the season.
