FIFA Ranking: Eagles Drop One Spot Again As France Topple Germany

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one spot again following the release of the latest FIFA Ranking on Thursday morning.

Nigeria dropped from 48th to 49th with 1,410 points in the ranking for the month of August, the first since the recently concluded FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

The Super Eagles, who had moved from 47th to 48th spot in the last FIFA Ranking in June (prior to the World Cup), crashed out of the tournament in the group stage.

Nigeria won one and lost two of their three Group D games thus finishing third behind knockout stage recipients, two-time winners Argentina and eventual finalists Croatia.

The West Africans drop one spot as previously mentioned and occupy 49th place alongside World Cup hosts Russia, who moved up 21 places after their quarterfinal feat at the tournament.

The three-time African champions, however, retained its place as the seventh-ranked country on the African continent behind Tunisia (24th), Senegal (24th), Congo DR (37th), Ghana (45th), Morocco (46th) and Cameroon (47th).

France emerged as world champions in Russia and are the latest top spot recipient as far as the FIFA Ranking is concerned.

Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Uruguay, England, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark complete the top 10 lineup.

Immediate past world champions and former leaders Germany drop down to 15th spot in the latest ranking after their wretched outing in Russia.

Germany shockingly crashed out in the group stage and finish bottom of Group D behind South Korea, Mexico and group winners Sweden.
