UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 Daily Wrap: Hosts Netherlands Go Three Points Clear In Group A

The six thousand Belgium supporters at the Rat Verlegh Stadium in Breda on Thursday night witnessed history as their Red Flames surprisingly engulfed Norway to claim their first ever UEFA Women’s EURO victory.

Goals from Elke Van Gorp and Janice Cayman helped the newcomers edge the 2013 Runners-up and now they are looking beyond the group stage.

Player of the Match, Tessa Wullaert, was delighted at the massive support Belgium got on the night.

“It was very nice to play in front of such a big crowd. We needed their support. They came because we showed a fighting spirit. We want to keep showing that so they keep coming.”

In the other Group A match played on Thursday, the Netherlands claimed their second win in as many matches.

A penalty dispatched by Sherida Spitse gave the hosts their second consecutive 1-0 victory at the Sparta Stadion in Rotterdam.

The Netherlands are now three points clear of Denmark and Belgium in the group.

Meanwhile Norway are still in contention for a place in the next round.
