Akwa United have their work cut out after they suffered a shocking 2-1 loss to Banjul Hawks of Gambia at home in the first leg of their 2018 CAF Confederation Cup clash at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

The visitors took a shocking 2-0 lead at halftime courtesy goals from Muhammed Jallow and Lamina Charity.

Akwa United upped the tempo in the second half with Victor Mbaoma pulling one back before Banjul Hawks goalkeeper Yankoha Calley kept his side’s advantage with some impressive saves in the remainder of the game.

The Promise Keepers will now have to score at least two goals in the second leg clash billed for Gambia on February 21 to have any chance of qualifying for the next round.

The winner of this preliminary round tie will face either Al-Ittihad Tripoli of Libya or Sahel SC of Niger Republic in the next round.
