Bayern Start Bundesliga Title Defence With Victory

German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich began the quest for a seventh successive title on a winning note following the 3-1 home win over TSG Hoffenheim on Friday night.

The Bavarian giants had to work hard for the win against Julian Nagelsmann’s men with two goals coming in the final eight minutes.

The hosts took a 23rd minute lead through German international forward Thomas Mueller only for them to be pegged back on 57 minutes when Hungarian striker Adam Szalai equalised for Hoffenheim.

Bayern regained the lead courtesy a Robert Lewandowski penalty eight minutes from time before flying Dutch winger Arjen Robben wrapped up the victory on the stroke of full-time.

The five-time European champions are the early league leaders ahead of the remaining week 1 fixtures.

The Hoffenheim clash was Niko Kovac’s league bow since he took over as the new Bayern Munich manager.
