Aruna Quadri Beat Ashanta To Qualify For Commonwealth Games Singles Final

Nigerian Table Tennis sensation Aruna Quadri is through to the men’s singles final at the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia after he defeated Sharath Ashanta in their semifinal clash on Saturday.

26th ranked Aruna Quadri saw off his Indian opposition to qualify for the singles final on Sunday where he will face world number 47 Ning Gao of Singapore.

In a related development, Nigerian wrestler Melvin Bibo had to settle for silver after he was beaten 3-0 by Mohammed Inam of Pakistan in the final of the men’s freestyle 86kg on Saturday.

Genesis Miesinnei also finished on the podium following her bronze medal win in the women’s freestyle 50kg.

She won Rupinder Kaur of Australia by technical superiority on Saturday to win bronze.

Team Nigeria is presently 9th on the medals table with 9 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals (23 medals) and the 2nd-placed African team behind South Africa (5th) with 37 medals (13 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals).
