World Athletics Championships: Home based Athletes Finally Issued Visas

Good news as some of Team Nigeria athletes have been granted visas to London for the British High Commission has issued visas to some Nigerian athletes featuring at the 2017 World Athletics Championships, which begins on Friday.

At least 3 athletes – Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Patience Okon George have been issued visas as at yesterday. The IAAF had to intervene on the delay of entering visas for Team Nigeria, a delay caused by the “shortness” of application time by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria due to lack of funds.

The secretary General of AFN, Amaechi Akawo, confirmed getting visa notifications yesterday in an interview.

Amaechi said “I got a notification that we should come four visas, If things work out tomorrow (Thursday), the athletes might just travel immediately because their flight ticket is ready.”

Meanwhile, some foreign based athletes are already in London and are settling in to compete for laurels at the 16th edition of the Championships.

There are signals that the rest of the home based athletes will also get their visas sorted today, just in time to travel to London.
