Serie A Review: Inter Pip Lazio To Final UCL Spot To End 6-Year Wait

Inter Milan are back in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) after a six-year absence after they pip Lazio to the final spot with a 3-2 away win over the capital club in an Italian Serie A Matchday 38 clash at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome on Sunday night.

The hosts took an early lead in the 9th minute through an Ivan Perisic only for Inter to hit back through Danilo D’Ambrosio.

Brazilian forward Felipe Anderson restored Lazio’s lead four minutes before halftime and they held on to that lead until the last 15 minutes when everything went downhill for Simone Inzaghi’s men.

Dutch defender Stefan De Vrij was penalised in the box and Inter Milan star player Mauro Icardi made no mistake from the spot to restore parity for the Milan-based outfit.

Senad Lulic was thereafter sent off for two yellow cards on 79 minutes before Matias Vecino headed in the winning goal some two minutes later.

Lazio players then lost their cool with substitute player Patric sent off for dissent but Inter Milan held on to the precious lead to seal UCL football next season in the face of chaos.

Crotone have suffered relegation after just one season in the league following their 2-1 loss to Napoli in their own league clash as other relegation rivals picked up results to condemn the team to Serie B football next season.
