Cristiano Ronaldo became the most followed person on Instagram on Monday, surpassing the likes of Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Beyonce and Lionel Messi with 144 million followers.

The Portuguese forward surpassed American actress and pop star Selena Gomez, who has held the top spot since 2016.

Gomez also overtook Ariana Grande in a list which is dominated by entertainment stars from the US.
