Plateau United Crash Out Of CAFCL; Drop Down To CAFCC

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Plateau United have crashed out of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) despite beating Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia 1-0 in their first round 2nd leg clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

Plateau United had lost the 1st leg 4-2 and needed at least two unreplied goals to secure a group stage spot only for the Jos-based team to score just one goal via a Tosin Omoyele strike thus losing to Etoile du Sahel 4-3 on aggregate.

The Nigerian champions have now dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) thereby joining fellow NPFL side MFM in the second tier of African club football.

MFM had earlier lost 7-2 on aggregate to MC Alger on Saturday following a 6-0 second leg loss in Algeria.
