2019 AFCON: Nigeria’s Ighalo Tops Goals Chart

Although Nigeria’s Super Eagles began their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying series poorly, they did not only end as the top team in Group E, its lead striker, Odion Ighalo also emerged as the continent’s overall top scorer in the qualifying stages.

The Shanghai Shenhua striker had seven goals to beat Fiston Abdul Razak of Burundi who scored six.

Both strikers led their respective teams to the expanded AFCON scheduled for Egypt in June.

Ighalo opened his scoring account in the away match with Seychelles and had a hat-trick in the home match against Libya.

In the away match, he scored two goals and wrapped it up with a penalty goal in Asaba on Friday.

Ighalo’s goal at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba is the first in an international match at the arena.
