NPFL: Rivers United In Lafia For Maximum Points – Captain Austin (AUDIO)

In a bid to claim a first league title in a decade, Rivers United captain Festus Austin says the immediate task for his side is to grab all three points at stake when they confront Nasarawa United in a Match Day 29 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in Lafia on Sunday.

The Pride of Rivers, who occupy fourth spot on the NPFL standings with 48 points, are guests of second-placed Solid Miners (49pts) in a crucial and very important fixture for the title aspirations of both teams.

A win for Rivers United will see them leapfrog their hosts on the log, as they continue their quest for a first league title since 2011 (when they were known as Dolphins), and their long-standing skipper Austin is confident they can achieve it on Sunday.

“That match is an important match for Rivers United,” he said. “As you can see, we just have to move upward in the log.

“Nasarawa (United) have been giving good results in the log. So, we just have stop them. For you to be a champion, you have to stop those that are contending with you.

“I want to assure all Rivers United fans, they should keep hope alive. We are going to Lafia to bring the three maximum points to Rivers State.”

Austin also reiterated the club’s target of claiming the NPFL title this season, saying he’s confident they can do it.

“Overall, we are aiming at the top, and we want to win a trophy for our sports-loving Governor (Nyesom Wike). And I believe this season, we will get it right.”
