Newcastle United Complete Fabian Schar Transfer From Deportivo

Premier League side Newcastle United have completed the transfer of Swiss defender Fabian Schar from Deportivo La Coruna.

Schar, 26, joins the Magpies after the North East club activated the £3m release clause in his contract at the Spanish side.

He has signed a three-year contract at St. James Park to become Newcastle United’s fourth signing of the summer.

Fabian Schar has for 42 caps for Switzerland and was part of the team that crashed out of the just concluded FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia in the first knockout stage.

On his move to Newcastle United, the former Basel centre back told the club’s website that: “I’m not like a typical defender. I defend, but I’m quite good with the ball.”

“I want to build up the game from behind, and I think that is a strength of mine. I have also scored some headers – that could also be a strength and hopefully I can use it here.” He concluded.
