INSIDE AFCON 2019: “We respect Nigeria” – Cameroon Coach Clarence Seedorf

ALEXANDRIA – Head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon says he expects Nigeria to put up a much-improved performance when both sides clash in the Round of 16 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have failed to take flight in Egypt, labouring to two 1-0 wins against Burundi and Guinea before slipping to a shock 2-0 defeat to AFCON debutants Madagascar in the group stage.

But Seedorf, who has himself overseen a solid if stolid performance from Cameroon who won one and drew two in the group stages without conceding a goal, believes that the Super Eagles have scope for improvement and will show it against the Indomitable Lions tomorrow.

“We will respect Nigeria because they can improve on what they’ve shown so far in this tournament,” Seedorf said at the pre-match conference ahead of tomorrow’s game.

“We expect the very best Nigeria tomorrow because they have shown at the World Cup and during the qualifiers that they are a good team, so we expect them to be much improved against us and we have to be ready. “

The 5pm kickoff will see both sides renew a long and storied rivalry at the AFCON nineteen years on from their last encounter which Nigeria won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha and John Utaka.
