Rafael Everton Blows the Lid on Working Conditions with His Former Employers Akwa United

UYO – Embattled Akwa United Coach Rafael Everton has unraveled the underlying factors that caused his ill departure from the 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions.

Everton guided the Uyo-based outfit to finish top of Group B in the recently concluded regular season of the Nigeria Professional Football League but a trio of draws and a single victory during the NPFL Super Six Championship Playoffs led to an unfathomable decision by the club management to sideline the Brazilian considering he was not on the sidelines during the club’s last crucial game against Enyimba of Aba.

Akwa United went on to lose by a wide margin of three goals and consequently finish fourth in the playoffs, hence missing out on a spot in the continent.

While speculations roamed that the Brazilian tactician had been suspended by the Club’s management, the Promise Keepers will go on to participate in the 2019 Aiteo Cup without the embattled Everton consequently losing out to Rivers United in the second round – round of 32.

Last week, Busybuddies reported about Everton’s return to his home country Brazil but in fresh developments, the 30-year-old through his media managers has come out to clear the air on the situations that led to the misunderstanding between him and the club.

The message via his social media platform translated into English went thus:

“The direction of the club we declare our immense sadness, lack of professionalism, and great confusion in their decisions, without checking in the countless times he tried to interfere in the work of the coach. Before finishing the group stage, for many times the coach wanted to resign his position, more to the requests of the players he continued, doing his great job, in the dispute of super 6 AKWA CAME FROM 4 games without losing if he won His last game against Enyimba would be champion if Kano did not win the game in the worst of the results Akwa would be second place. And hours before this game the coach received a suspension letter to stay out of the game and activities of the club, how does a club do it hours before a very important match? What is the intention of this direction,” it read.

According to the statement, Everton had yet to be contacted by his employees since his suspension and went further to state his availability to handle a new club.

“Today Coach Everton found in Brazil enjoying the holidays with the family and is free to sign a contract with another club.

“We would like to thank the players and admirers of the work of coach Everton Rafael,” the statement concluded.

Akwa United is yet to make an official statement about the current status of Everton’s relationship with the club.

Equally, the media unit of the club has evaded making comments regarding the situation despite Busybuddies effort to ascertain the prevalent status of Everton at the NPFL side.
