INSIDE AFCON 2019: Rohr Cautions Players Against Individual Errors Ahead of Cameroon Clash

ALEXANDRIA – Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has called on his players to avoid the sort of individual errors that cost them against Madagascar when Nigeria play defending champions Cameroon in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s tie at the Alexandria Stadium, Rohr said errors such as the one that led to Madagascar’s first goal in Nigeria’s last game must be avoided for Nigeria to win.

“I am scared of us committing individual errors and I hope we won’t have individual errors tomorrow that will cost us. We know that Cameroon are very strong with good footballing education in France and we hope we can find their weak points,” Rohr said.

Addressing fitness issues, Rohr said he had a full complement of players to choose from with left-back Jamilu Collins fit again although, Shehu Abdullahi and John Mikel Obi are still ruled out with injury.

There have been reports that Rohr could be sacked if Nigeria loses to Cameroon tomorrow but speaking about his future, Nigeria’s coach downplayed rumours about his future saying he’ll provide clarity on his future at the end of the tournament.

“I’ve heard plenty rumours that regardless of how we perform, I’ll lose my job even if I win the title. But I don’t pay attention to the rumours on social media. I hope to do well here and then after this tournament, I’ll address my future.”
