FIFA Set To Make Changes To Its Monthly Ranking

World football’s governing body, FIFA, has revealed that changes will be made to its monthly ranking.

This was disclosed after its technical meeting ahead of the World Cup tournament which gets underway on Thursday in Russia.

According to the international football body, the method of calculating the points for the ranking will be changed to the one that adds or subtracts points from a country’s total instead of the method that averages the points over a multi-year period.

The new development was explained via a FIFA statement which said: “Teams gain and lose points based on their performance. The number of points gained or lost is a function of the relative strength of the opponents. Thus a weak team beating a strong team gains more points than a strong team beating a weak team. It is a fair and logical concept.”
