Chelsea Beat Villarreal To Win European Super Cup

Chelsea beat Villarreal 6-5 on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup at Windsor Park on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was the hero saving two penalties including the decisive one from Villarreal captain Raul Albiol’s spot-kick in the shootout after coming on for Edouard Mendy in the last minute of extra time.

Hakim Ziyech opened the scoring for the Champions League winners midway through the opening 45 minutes but was then forced off with what looked like a worrying shoulder injury before half-time.

The Spaniards, Europa League winners hit the woodwork either side of the break before Gerard Moreno equalised in the 73rd minute to force extra time.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel made a decision to bring in Arrizabalaga as penalties loomed and it proved to be an inspired decision as the Spaniard saved twice to ensure the Blues lifted the trophy for the second time.
