NPFL: Osho Delighted With Oriental Derby Win Against Rangers (AUDIO)

Enyimba coach Fatai Osho is hugely satisfied with his side’s 2-1 win against Oriental rivals Rangers in a re-arranged Nigeria Professional Football league (NPFL) fixture in Aba, describing it as “one of our best-ever football matches this season”.

Red-hot striker Victor Mbaoma put the People’s Elephant in front after just 3 minutes – his 4th goal in five matches – before Israel Abia drew the Flying Antelopes level three minutes later. Midfield enforcer Cyril Olisema scored the winner for Enyimba 12 minutes before the break to hand Osho’s men maximum points.

The win moved the record 8-time NPFL champions to 6th on the standings, with 44 points from 25 matches, still with two games in hand.

However, the former Remo Stars gaffer was more pleased with how his side performed against a very credible opponent like Rangers.

“It has been a difficult experience for us anytime we play the South-East teams,” Osho noted. “You see, the rivalry is there. You want to look at the history between Enyimba and Rangers Football Club. It has never been easy. This is what we expected.

“We are talking of a team that is handled by a seasoned coach (Salisu Yusuf). They are going to compete very well, and they did that.

“But for our players, they did extremely well – one of our best-ever football matches this season. You can see the compactness, the transition, the combinational play, the teamwork, the team chemistry. It was quite amazing.

“It’s just a shame we didn’t score more than two goals.”

Enyimba will continue the quest for a record-extending 9th league crown at home on Sunday, when they confront Nasarawa United in a Match Day 28 NPFL encounter.
