Victory At Last! US End 17-Year Wait For Fed Cup Title

The United States (US) have finally ended their long wait for a Fed Cup title after the duo of Shelby Rogers and CoCo Vandeweghe defeated Aryna Sabalenka and Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus in a deciding doubles rubber in the final on Sunday.

Vandeweghe and Rogers saw off their Belarusian opponents 6-3 7-6 (7-3) to give the Americans an 18th Fed Cup crown courtesy a 3-2 final victory. It was the country’s first title for 17 years (since 2000).

CoCo Vandeweghe had earlier edged USA 2-1 ahead on Sunday with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 triumph over the previously mentioned Sabalenka before Aliaksandr Sasnovich recovered from losing the first set to beat Sloane Stephens 4-6 6-1 8-6 and pull Belarus level at 2-2 paving the way for the deciding doubles win in favour of the US team amidst the passionate crowd in Minsk, Belarus.
