WSL Review: Manchester City Women Secure Top Spot To Emulate Male Team

Manchester City women have moved to the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) after they thrashed Bristol City 4-0 at home thus emulating their male team’s dominance in the English Premier League (EPL).

Izzy Christiansen scored an 8th minute penalty after she was brought down in the box to put her team ahead at the Academy Stadium before Claire Emslie doubled the lead with seven minutes left in the first half.

Abbie McManus added a third goal in the second half with a curling left-footed effort before Jen Beattie scored a fourth to wrap up Manchester City Women’s fifth straight league win.

The victory was enough to take the team two points clear of former leaders Chelsea who drop to second place after a 2-2 draw at Reading.
