UCL Say No To VAR For Now

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology has dominated the media space in recent times, however, its advocate will have to wait for a while before it is put to use in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

According to UEFA President Aleksandr Ceferin, VAR technology won’t be used in the UCL next season with the European governing body keen not to rush it.

Speaking at a UEFA Congress on Monday, Ceferin said: “Fans see the VAR screen all the time but nobody knows how it works.”

“We will not use it in the Champions League next season. For me, it might be a good project but we shouldn’t rush it.” he added.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is set to recovene in Zurich, Switzerland on Saturday, with FIFA ready to use it at this summer’s World Cup in Russia on approval.
