Top NFF Source Debunks Aigbogun, Finidi George Rumours

Rumours that former Super Eagle Finidi George and ex Enyimba coach Paul Aigbogun will be named head coaches of the U17 and U20 national teams respectively are untrue a top Nigeria Football Federation source has told busybuddiesng.com.

Several recent media reports had speculated that an announcement from the NFF confirming the pair was imminent.

But a top NFF source has dismissed the reports telling busybuddiesng.com that the rumours are “not at all” true.

The NFF is looking to rebuild both teams following a less than impressive 2019 in which they posted woeful outings at FIFA tournaments.

The U20 team coached by Aigbogun were woeful in exiting the U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland last year at the quarterfinal stage.

Aigbogun led the Flying Eagles to a disastrous outing the U20 FIFA World Cup in Poland

Many Nigerians have since described the team as the worst ever Fly Eagles team at any level in the nation’s history and it is not thought that Nigerians will not take too kindly to Aigbogun returning.

The U17 Golden Eaglets were also eliminated in the quarterfinal stage at the U17 World Cup in Brazil after which Manu Garba was let go following the expiration of his contract.

Finidi George has made no secret of his ambition to coach any of Nigeria’s youth teams and has garnered experience with youth teams at former clubs Real Mallorca and Ajax.

It remains to be seen if the 1994 AFCON winner will figure prominently in the NFF’s thoughts when the U17 vacancy is eventually filled.
