African Club Sacks Mexican Coach for Losing Derby Game 

Rwanda Premier League defending champions Rayon Sports have sacked Mexican coach Javier Martinez after three months in charge, the club confirmed via their official Twitter handle on Tuesday morning.

“Rayon Sports has parted ways with the Javier Martinez Espinoza who has been in the club for three months. We reached an agreement with the Mexican to terminate his contract as head coach,” read the tweet.

Martinez replaced Brazilian Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo on September 21st, 2019 .

Following Rayon Sport’s 2-0 defeat over the weekend to rivals APR FC in the explosive Kigali Derby, the club management decided to relieve Martinez off his duties.

Since his arrival at Rayon Sports, Martinez has been in charge of 15 league games winning nine, drawing four and losing twice against Sunrise FC and APR FC.

He collected 31 points out of a possible 45 with the club currently in third place on 31 points, six points behind leaders and rivals APR FC.

Assistant coach Kirasa Allain is expected to be in charge in the interim. However, Former AFC Leopard and Kiyovu Sports tactician Cassa Mbungo Andre is in the running for the job.
