Taiwo Awoniyi Signs Contract Extension At Liverpool

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has put pen to paper on a contract extension at Premier League giants Liverpool.

The 20-year-old signed his new contract on Tuesday though the club didn’t reveal the length of the contract but reports claim its a two-year extension.

Taiwo Awoniyi joined the Reds from Imperial Academy in 2015 and has spent the last three seasons on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen and Royal Excel Mouscron.

He excelled at Belgian club Royal Excel Mouscron last season as he scored 10 goals and made four assists in 31 games.

On his new contract, the former Flying Eagles and Dream Team striker told the club’s website that: “I feel excited and I feel very happy.”

“It has been three years since I first came to Liverpool. So far, so good. The last year was the best for me, it has been an amazing year so far.

“I just have to keep working hard each year and I believe one day the dream will come true.

“Thanks to my family, who have been so supportive. I’m very glad and excited about this contract and hopefully, to have an even better year.” He added.

He also revealed his desire to play for the Super Eagles as he said: “That is a big part of the ambition for me.”

“I have played for many years with the youth teams, and I look forward to hopefully getting a chance with the senior team.” He concluded.
