Naomi Osaka pulled off the biggest win of her short career by beating Venus Williams at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open.
19-year old Osaka won in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to gain her revenge on the American, who had been victorious earlier this year in their match at the Wimbledon Open in the summer.
Speaking after her victory, Osaka said:
“I feel like even if I hit one semi-short ball she would come in and crush it, so I had to play really well.”
The world no. 64 recorded her biggest scalp at the US Open last month when she defeated world no. 6 Angelique Kerber but her latest win against world no. 5 Venus Williams surpasses that feat.
