Spanish La Liga Review: Valencia’s Title Bid Suffers Massive Dent At Getafe

Valencia’s unlikely title bid suffered a major dent following their surprising 1-0 loss at 10-man Getafe in a week 14 league clash on Sunday evening.

Markel Bergara was the hero for the home side as he netted the only goal of the game in the 66th minute to end Valencia’s 13-match unbeaten start to the season.

It was a dogged performance from the hosts who had Mauro Arambarri sent off as early as the 25th minute for two yellow cards within the space of four minutes.

With the defeat, Valencia missed out on the opportunity to capitalise on leaders Barcelona’s 2-2 draw at home to Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon. A win would have taken Valencia to within two points of the Nou Camp outfit.

Sunday’s Results (week 14):

Getafe 1-0 Valencia

Leganes 3-1 Villareal

Las Palmas 1-0 Real Betis

Eibar 3-1 Espanyol

Standings (Top 5):

1. Barcelona 36 points

2. Valencia 31 points

3. Atletico Madrid 30 points

4. Real Madrid 28 points
