Italian Serie A Watch: Perisic Treble Propels Inter To The Summit As Rivals Milan Continue Monumental Struggle Against Lowly Benevento

Croatian international Ivan Perisic reminded Manchester United and Nigeria what he can do as he netted a hattrick to help his Inter Milan side to the summit with a 5-0 victory over Chievo Verona.

Perisic came close to joining Manchester United in the summer but decided to stay with Inter and is also expected to be one of the top performers for Croatia as they battle Nigeria, Argentina and Iceland in Group D at next year’s World Cup in Russia.

Mauro Icardi and Milan Skirinar scored the other goals for Luciano Spalletti’s side as the former European champions move above Napoli on the league table.

Its the change of coach and the same result for fallen Italian giants AC Milan whose fall from grace to grass has been quite monumental.

The latest part of that fall came at lowly Benevento who were handed their first point ever in the top flight after they battled back twice to earn a 2-2 draw against their more illustrious opponents.

Giacomo Bonaventura got the new managerial era under former club stalwart Gennaro Gattuso to a great start with a first half strike for AC Milan before they were pegged back just after the interval by George Puscas.

Milan went in front again through Croatian striker Nicola Kalinic but they were soon reduced to 10 men after Alessio Romagnoli was dismissed after two yellow cards with 15 mins remaining and the home side deservedly capitalised in added time through their goalkeeper, Alberto Brignoli.

Lazio stay in touch with the leading pack following their 2-1 comeback win over their hosts Sampdoria. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Felipe Caicedo struck to overturn Duvan Zapata’ s opener for the home side.
