Premier League outfit Chelsea have signed Brazilian-born Italian midfielder Jorginho from Italian Serie A Napoli.
The 26-year-old follows new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge in what is the Italian tactician’s first signing at the club.
The eight-cap Italian international has penned a five-year contract in a deal worth £57m.
In his first interview as a Blues player, Jorginho expressed his delight with the new career move he has made.
In his words, he said: “I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.”
Club director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea. He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad. He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge.”
Jorginho joined Napoli from fellow Italian side Hellas Verona in 2014 and went on to score 2 goals in 133 appearances for the club.
