Senegal Claim First AFCON Win Against Cameroon In 34 Years, Seal Round Of 16 Place

Reigning champions Teranga Lions of Senegal have qualified for the round of 16 at the AFCON 2023 after defeating Cameroon 3-1 in Group C on Friday.

It is now back-to-back wins for Senegal who hammered Gambia 3-0 in their group opener.

This is Senegal’s first AFCON win against Cameroon since the 1990 edition in Algiers.

The last three meetings (1992, 2002, 2017) at the tournament saw Cameroon emerging victorious.

Manchester United first choice, Andre Onana, was back in action for Cameroon after not being included in the 1-1 draw against Guinea.

Also in action was Chelsea’s striker, Nicholas Jackson, who came on in the second half and had a hand in Senegal’s third goal.
