After a thrilling encounter in the Serie A between Juventus and Sampdoria on Saturday, which seemed to be marred by controversial decisions made by the referee, The Old Lady took won 2-1 against the visitors.
In probably an emotional situation, the handler of Sampdoria’s official Twitter account tweeted: “⏰ ends 2-1 in Turin. With a questionable rigour of #Ronaldo and the help of the #VAR #JuveSamp concludes with the victory of the Bianconeri. Doria mocked.” inadvertently accusing Ronaldo of playing unfairly and the referee of officiating in favour of Juventus.
About an hour later, the same handle tweeted an apology blaming the outburst on ‘the heat of the moment’.
A translation of the tweet reads: “In the heat of the last few moments #JuveSamp we were not lucid in expressing our disappointment. We humbly apologize.”
The fixture which saw two penalties given to both sides, including one where despite the VAR being used, it seemed too controversial to be awarded.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace in the match puts him 14 goals from the campaign.
