Real Madrid Stars Dominate UEFA Awards

Real Madrid players scooped the majority of the UEFA Champions League awards earlier on Thursday.

They were given the awards during the Champions League group stage draw held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

The Real Madrid trio of Keylor Navas, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric were award recipients alongside former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Italian champions Juventus this summer.

Costa Rican international shot stopper won the Goalkeeper of the Season Award ahead of Gianlugi Buffon (PSG & Italy) and Alisson (Liverpool).

Spanish centre back Sergio Ramos beat teammates Raphael Varane (France) and Marcelo (Brazil) to the Defender of the Season category, while Croatian World Cup star Luka Modric was given the Midfielder of the Season Award at the expense of teammate Toni Kroos and Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City & Belgium).

Portuguese international captain Cristiano Ronaldo won the Forward of the Season category ahead of Mohamed Salah (Liverpool & Egypt) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona & Argentina).

Former Manchester United and England captain David Beckham was given the President’s Award, while Georgia international star Kuram Gashia of American side San Jose Earthquakes won the debut EqualGame Award.
