Carl Ikeme To Join Eagles Technical Crew In October

Recently retired Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme will join the Super Eagles technical crew in October according to head coach Gernot Rohr.

Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukemia before the start of last season and immediately underwent chemotherapy treatment.

He was then advised by his doctors to quit the football field for medical reasons despite the fact that he successfully completed his treatment.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers Academy graduate was offered a coaching education as a goalkeeper trainer by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last month.

According to the football body, Carl Ikeme would thereafter be absorbed into the Super Eagles technical crew.

Gernot Rohr has now revealed that he will touch down in Lagos on October 4 ahead of the Super Eagles’ African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Matchday 3 qualifying clash with Libya on October 10.

In his words via Soccernet, Rohr said: “Ikeme has been excused from next weekend’s game and will make his debut in the Eagles’ dug with Libya, for which he will land in Lagos six days before the match.”
