NPFL Review (Rescheduled Games): Champions Plateau United Secure Top Four Spot With Draw At Akwa As Enyimba, IfeanyiUbah Clash Ends In Stalemate

Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Plateau United have moved into the top four after they battled to a 1-1 draw at Akwa United in a rescheduled Matchday 16 clash played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday evening.

Cyril Olisema had given the hosts the lead eight minutes into the second half before Hamzat Owolabi earned a share of the spoils for the holders by getting a 74th minute equaliser.

The draw takes Plateau United from 5th to 4th spot as the champions go level on points (30) with third-placed Katsina United who presently occupy the last continental slot while AITEO Cup champions Akwa United (28 points) also move up one spot on the table from 8th to 7th spot.

A 1-1 scoreline was also recorded during the Oriental Derby clash between Enyimba and their guests FC IfeanyiUbah.

The Nnewi-based side took the lead through Pascal Seka just before halftime before they were pegged back by Ibrahim Mustapha’s equaliser immediately after the hour mark during the rescheduled Matchday 17 clash.

Enyimba (28 points) are upwardly mobile on the league table from 9th to 8th position while FC IfeanyiUbah (27 points) move two places up the table from 12th into the top ten.

In the final league game played on Wednesday, Yobe Desert Stars defeated Lagos-based side MFM FC 1-0 courtesy a stoppage time penalty from Philip Asuquo.

The win from the rescheduled Matchday 17 game was enough to move the hosts above Abia Warriors and Nasarawa United into 12th spot while their opponents drop one spot from 10th to 11th as a result of the defeat.
