NPFL: Finally…Sunshine Stars Win, Mohammed Rescues Enyimba, Pillars Lose In PH

Sunshine Stars ended the longest winless streak in Nigeria Professional Football League history with a narrow 1-0 win against Dakkada FC in Akure on matchday 26.

The Akure side had failed to win in 18 previous games but Ejike Uzoenyi’s goal in added time of the first-half was enough to give them all three points at the 19th time of asking. Despite the win, Stars remain in relegation trouble, three points off safety in 19th while Dakkada who have now lost three games on the bounce are 12th.

On a good day for struggling sides, home side FC Ifeanyiubah saw off Kwara United 2-1 in Nnewi with Ekene Awazie scoring a brace including a late winner after the visitor’s Jude Steven cancelled out his first-half penalty.

Leaders Kano Pillars saw their 10-game unbeaten streak ended by Rivers United in Port Harcourt with Sunday Adetunji and Paul Acquah scoring the goals to lift Stanley Eguma’s side to 4th.

Silas Nwankwo scored a brace and David Chimezie added an own goal as Nasarawa United dispatched Warri Wolves 3-1 in Lafia with Sunday Williams grabbing a consolatory effort for the visitors. Muhammad Rabiu scored a penalty and Buhari Ibrahim added a second as Plateau United made it two straight wins with a 2-0 win against Katsina United in Jos.

Manu Garba’s 69th-minute equalizer helped visiting Wikki Tourist grab a share of the spoils at Jigawa Golden Stars after Saidu Abdullahi’s 57th-minute opener. Meanwhile, Ossy Martin’s 22nd-minute goal condemned Rangers to a third game without a win as Lobi ran out 1-0 winners in Makurdi.

Farouk Mohammed’s winner fifteen minutes from time rescued record NPFL champions Enyimba from an embarrassing draw with bottom side Adamawa United in Aba.

Anayo Ogbonna looked to have given the visitors a share of the spoils in the 64th-minute after he cancelled Victor Mbaoma’s first-half opener but Mohammed appeared just in time to spare Fatai Osho’s blushes.
