NPFL: Eguma Surprised By Rivers United’s Familiar 1-0 Wins (AUDIO)

AUDIO: We will Do Everything Possible To Defeat Enyimba – Eguma

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma says he is surprised the Port Harcourt side struggled to win matches by a 1-0 scoreline in the just-concluded ‘regular’ season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Pride of Rivers condemned Bendel Insurance to the Nigeria National League (NNL) on Sunday after recording a predictable 1-0 win against the Benin Arsenals at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, their sixth 1-0 victory in seven home wins. The only exception being a shock 3-0 win against high-flying Rangers.

Asked why his team found it difficult to score more than one goal at home, Eguma said: “I am equally amazed by it because we have been training hard to score goals.

“The most important thing is that we can score one. Why can’t we score two or three? I think that has to do with the psychology of the players sometimes.

“We try to psyche them up and let them know that ‘gentlemen. If you can score one, you can also score two or you score three’. And against Rangers, they did it. And we told them, ‘you have done it against Rangers, Rangers was leading the league and they came from the continent. If you can do it against Rangers, you can as well do it against other teams’.

“But it is still surprising why every match is ending 1-0, 1-0,” the former Enyimba assistant coach lamented.

Rivers United finished 5th in Group A of the abridged 2018/209 NPFL season with 31 points from 22 matches, escaping relegation at the expense of Insurance on the final day (regular season).
