NFF Chief Drums Up Support For Falconets

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Muhammad Sanusi has urged Nigerians to rally around the nation’s female U-20 team, Falconets, ahead of the knockout stages at the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in France.

Falconets striker and captain Rasheedat Ajibade struck in the final minute of added time to rescue a 1-1 draw with China People’s Republic (China PR) in their final Group D game and send the two-time finalists into the quarterfinals at the expense of their Asian opponents.

Reacting to the team’s dramatic feat via Complete Sports, Dr. Sanusi said: “After the 1-1 draw against China that ensured that the Falconets reached the quarter-finals, I believe this will boost them and raise the confidence in going further in the championship. The girls and their officials will continue to work hard to better their previous record of losing in the final twice.”

“All we are asking for is for Nigerians to continue to support the team with prayers for the team to excel in the FIFA under-20 women World Cup holding in France. I am happy with the way the team came from the dead to snatch a late equaliser and book their place in the quarter-finals.”

Nigeria will face Group C winners Spain in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
