UFC 248: Israel Adesanya Defeats Yoel Romero To Retain Title

Israel Adesanya beat challenger Yoel Romero via unanimous decision to retain his middleweight title in the main event of UFC 248 in Las Vegas.

The Nigeria-born fighter successfully fended off the challenge of the Cuban in an encounter that failed to live up to pre-fight expectations.

The victory maintains the “Last Stylebender’s” unbeaten run and takes UFC record to 19 wins and no losses as he solidifies himself as the best middleweight in UFC.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise in UFC since his debut in 2018 and with the win over “the Soldier of God”, Adesanya added one of the scariest fighters in the division to a list of victims that already includes Anderson Silva, Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum.

The Nigerian-born fighter is now likely to turn his sights to other fighters in the division or as is more likely, contemplate even bigger fish as he sets on cementing his legacy as the biggest name in the sport.

And they don’t come bigger than light heavyweight champion Jon Jones with whom Adesanya has a burgeoning beef and a potential blockbuster bout which would see Adesanya move up to heavyweight could be on the cards and would surely capture the imagination of the world.
