Nadal Survives Khachanov Scare To Book US Open Last 16 Place

World number one Rafael Nadal is on course to win his fourth US Open title after he survived a first set scare to beat Karen Khachanov of Russia and secure a spot in the last 16 in New York.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion defeated the powerful Russian in four sets 5-7 7-5 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-3) in their third round clash on Friday night.

The duel was easily one of the best matches of the tournament as Spaniard Nadal dropped his first set at Flushing Meadows.

The 32-year-old will face Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the fourth round for a place in the US Open quarterfinals.
