Nigerian sprinter Divine Oduduru on Saturday shattered a 14-year old record at the Texas Tech University after he ran a new personal best of 10.10secs in the 100m ķkat the Michael Johnson Invitational.

Oduduru was unable to represent Nigeria at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia because of school commitments but that didn’t stop him from breaking the school’s record of 10.11secs set by Tyree Gailes at the 2004 NCAA outdoor championships.

He finished ahead of Texas A&M’s Jace Comick (10.37secs) and Stephen Austin University’s Aaron Piper (10.49secs).

Divine Oduduru also ran the first leg to help the school finish in second spot in the 4x400m relay behind Texas A&M (3:02.82secs).

On Oduduru’s feat, his coach Wes Kittley was full of praises for him. In his words via Lubbock Online, he said: “Divine had a great meet, poor guy. He’s run several times, but to get that wind below meters per second’s been tough, and finally did.”

“This is probably the best start I’ve seen him get as a Red Raider. He had a good start, set his race up well and just ran relaxed and looked like he was having fun out there. He had been working at it since last year but getting behind the wind had been his challenge. He ran a 10.09secs last season with the wind above 2mps and I knew it was a matter of time before he beats it.” he added.
