La Liga Review: Heavy Atletico Beating Pushes Barcelona Closer To Title As Malaga Suffer Relegation With Late Defeat

Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona are one win away from clinching the title after their nearest challengers Atletico Madrid suffered a surprising 3-0 loss at Real Sociedad in a Matchday 33 clash on Thursday evening.

Willian Jose shot the hosts into a first half lead before a brace from Juanmi in the last ten minutes wrapped up the emphatic win for Real Sociedad.

Barcelona are not in league action this weekend because of their Copa Del Rey commitments with Sevilla in the final but they could still be crowned champions if Atletico fail to pick at least a point in their home clash with Real Betis on Sunday.

Ernesto Valverde’s team will travel to Deportivo La Coruna next weekend with the knowledge that an outright victory will usher in the league title.

In a related development, Emmanuel Boateng scored a late goal to help Levante to a 1-0 home win over Malaga thus condemning the basement club to relegation from the tip flight.

Malaga are now the first team to get relegated in Europe’s top five leagues.
