Bundesliga Review: Batshuayi Brace Aids Dortmund To Go Second

Michy Batshuayi was an instant hit with his new club after he netted two goals and an assist to help his Borussia Dortmund side to a 3-2 win over their hosts FC Cologne in a week 21 Bundesliga clash.

The on-loan Chelsea striker gave the away side the lead seven minutes before halftime but the lead was wiped out for the home side by Simon Zoller on the hour mark.

The Belgian added his brace two minutes after the home side’s equaliser before Spanish defender Jorge Mere levelled proceedings for his side for the second time.

There was however no way back for Cologne at the third time of asking after 2014 German World Cup winner Andre Schuerlle edged Borussia Dortmund 3-2 ahead off an assist from Batshuayi with six minutes left.

The crucial win takes Borussia Dortmund (34 points) four places up the table from 6th to 2nd and 16 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich (50 points) while Cologne (13 points) stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

The UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaigners are currently seven points from safety in the fight to beat the drop at the end of the season.
