Italian Serie A Wrap: Torino Shock 10-Man Lazio To Put Surprise Title Bid In Tatters

Lazio’s surprising title bid received a huge setback after they suffered a 3-1 loss to their guests Torino in a week 16 clash played at the Stadio Olimpico.

Alejandro Berenguer gave the visitors a 34th minute lead and Lazio received further blow when leading scorer Ciro Immobile was sent off on the stroke of halftime.

Tomas Rincon made that advantage count for Torino with a second goal. Luis Alberto thereafter halved the deficit only for winger Simone Edera to wrap up the big win.

Lazio (5th ) could have leapfrogged city rivals AS Roma into 4th spot but they failed to do so and they are now right points adrift of league leaders Inter Milan having played a game less.

Torino are however upwardly mobile as they have moved from 12th into the top eight on the table after 23 points from the first 16 league games of the season.

Standings (Top 5):

1. Inter Milan 40 points

2. Napoli 39 points

3. Juventus 38 points

4. AS Roma 35 points

5. Lazio 32 points
