CAF Club Competitions Given New Format As From 2019

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that its club competitions will have a new format as from 2019.

According to the African football body, the new format that mirrors that of the European club calendar will be introduced to both the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and the CAF Confederations Cup (CAFCC).

The new format will begin as from the 2019/2020 and it will run from September 2019 to May 2020 with those dates expected to remain the same into the subsequent seasons.

As confirmed by CAF, the 2018 season will start with the preliminary stage in both the CAFCL and CAFCC during the weekend of February 9-11.

The Super Cup match up between CAFCL holders Wydad Casablanca and CAFCC holders TP Mazembe will take place on the weekend of February 23-25.

The CAFCL final will take place during the weekend of November 2-4 and November 9-11 while that of the CAFCC final will hold on the weekend of November 23 to 25 and November 30 to December 2.

The 2018/19 season will resume immediately after the end of the 2018 season according to the African football body with the season expected to run from December 2018 to May 2019.
