Burnley Bow Out Of Europa League After Olympiakos Aggregate Loss

Premier League side Burnley have been knocked out of this season’s Europa League at the playoff stage in the wake of their aggregate loss to Olympiakos.

The Lancashire club drew 1-1 at home to their Greek opponents to bow out of the competition via a 4-2 aggregate defeat after Olympiakos won the first leg 3-1.

With the aim of overturning the deficit from the first meeting in Athens, Burnley started the second leg on the front foot but really struggled to break down their opponents in the first half.

The same pattern continued into the second half until Portuguese winger Daniel Podence gave the visitors an 83rd minute lead to edge Olympiakos 4-1 ahead on aggregate.

Substitute Matej Vydra equalised for Sean Dyche’s team two minutes later but it turned out to be mere consolation for Burnley who exited the competition via a 4-2 loss over the two legs.
